Our team has spent many years in the architectural design field performing design for many types of projects. We have a creative eye and find interesting ways to blend space and texture into meaningful and unique spaces. When we were looking to purchase a home on the N Umpqua River there were few homes for sale. We bought the ugliest house in the best neighborhood. It had everything we were looking for in location so we bought it knowing a major remodel would be coming.

When the time came we were so thankful to be introduced to Jake. He listened to what we wanted to do and came up with a design to transform our diamond in the rough into our dream home we enjoy every day. Having a contractor who is also an architect made the planning and the remodel process seamless.

You will not find a more honest and trustworthy person than Jake Johnson. At no time did we need to question any information he shared with us as we went through each phase of our building experience. He was always upfront about any issues that arose. Jake included us in all major decisions as we moved through the designing and building process.

Jake was willing to allow us to be so involved that he was even agreeable and open to the possibility of having us hire our own subcontractors to complete some finish work, enabling us to save on our total costs.

Working with Jake over the past several years has been great! He has so many good ideas and wonderful suggestions – things that normally just don’t cross your mind.

He was very receptive to incorporating ideas that we wanted to see integrated in both our garage/studio and house builds. We felt that that is key in building trust in a relationship.

Between Jake (and his wife, Mita), the designs of the house and furnishings that were presented were artistic and well-thought out. They were offered in an easy to understand fashion, featuring contemporary ideas.

As with all building projects, there can be unforeseen issues to contend with, such as weather and work crew staffing. There were several leavings and new hires during the course of our project, which did cause some delays. Because of staff changes, there was some sub-standard work done but it was quickly resolved. We believe that Jake did his best in trying to stick to the budget and timeline of completion.

In our opinion, one of the hardest parts of being a contractor is overseeing the sub-contractors. Jake was always good about his dealings with them – communication, coordination, and keeping us in the loop.

We think that Jake has great architectural skills. His designs are not the “plain Jane” or cookie-cutter types of builds that you see quite often in our area. His builds are unique.
